That's right, trash lovers - your Leader is coming to visit these very shores early next year for a limited run of shows. I think it's fair to say that Waters is one of the most important cult movie figures ever, gleefully smashing taboos with a smile and making bad taste fun again, because he can! With a career spanning 40 years (you count 'em), Waters has by turns shocked, appalled, horrified, mortified, confronted and confounded his audiences, usually while he's making them laugh uproariously and presenting them with an acerbic picture of how authority and repression try to beat down the outsiders, and ultimately fail.
Given that 40 years of experience and subverting the mainstream in essential trash classics such as Pink Flamingos, Desperate Living, Female Trouble, Polyester, Serial Mom, Cry Baby, Cecil B Demented, Pecker and A Dirty Shame to name but a few, there oughtta be some great stories to hear from the Man when he tours next year - this will be one show NOT to miss!
Described as a "vaudeville" act, "This Filthy World" celebrates the film career and obsessional tastes of the man William Burroughs once called "The Pope of Trash". Focusing in on Waters' early negative artistic influences and his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to "filth followers" everywhere.

It looks like he's only coming to Australia. A night with the Pope of Trash would almost be worth making the trip across the Tasman though, wouldn't it?
