The Demons Among Us, a movie which should need no introduction as we have been pimping the hell out of it for ages now, will be available to buy in the US on June 24. This isn't the most exciting news for those of us in Australia as Accent Underground put out a fantastic release last year, however our US readers who haven't already opted for the Aussie import might be interested in snapping-up this new Troma DVD, which will feature the Diary of a Demon featurette, deleted scenes, and the outrageous short Sickie. The cheesy US cover art (click to enlarge) doesn't exactly represent the tone of the film though (it does have a certain wackiness to it, but it's a lot more serious than people will give it credit for when they see the Troma name plastered on the front), and considering the fact that phrases like "anamorphic enhancement" and "5.1 channel surround sound" aren't used all that often at the Troma building it's fair to assume that Accent's local DVD will be the superior release. Of course, it's still great to see Aussie horror getting a US release, and the Troma disc will no doubt feature a bunch of totally unrelated yet moderately amusing self promotional extras, including the obligatory intro from Lloyd Kaufman which you can check out below.

The second Aussie movie to get Tromatized is Bloodspit, which will be released in just a few weeks on May 20. Unlike The Demons Among Us, Bloodspit has never been released in Australia - in fact, this Troma DVD will pretty much be the first chance the word has had to see the film as festival screenings and releases in other territories have been nonexistent, which is a shame as it's a fairly entertaining experience (check out our review here). It's also a more appropriate title for the Troma catalogue with over-the-top acting and moments of gratuitous nudity from females and werewolves, and, unlike The Demons Among Us, it's cover art looks fairly slick. Of course, the fact that Digital Retribution is quoted right there on the front hasn't affected my judgement in any way. Well OK, maybe a little. At any rate, the disc will feature an interview with creators Duke Hendrix and Leon Fish as well as the obligatory Tromatic filler material. Be sure to click on the image to the left so you can gaze lovingly at the DR quote in its enlarged glory.
