Actiongirls Blasting on to Blu-ray!

In a move that will surely kill the HD DVD format once and for all,  Scotty JX has just announced that the Actiongirls series will be released exclusively on Blu-ray! I have been unimpressed by most press announcements bigging up the Blu-ray format so far, but after reading quotes like these from the Actiongirls press release I actually want to rush out and get myself a Blu-ray player:

"Yes finally naked boobs in High Def is here! Imagine Veronica Zemanova 1920 X 1080! Well it's time to stop dreaming, the first of many Actiongirls titles hits Blu-ray for the first time!"

Yes, I am an unashamed Actiongirls fan, and perhaps the best news of of all is that the Actiongirls Blu-ray titles will be region free. Actiongirls.com Volume 4 will be the first Blu-ray release, and is available for pre-order now at the Actiongirls website.

The ACTIONGIRLS dvds are all 4:3, shot on open matte DV, with the exception of (I think) SOLDIERS OF THE DEAD, which is still awaiting an official release.

The picture quality, at least up until and including Vol 3 (the ones I've got), doesn't look hi-def to me. It's presented full frame and looks like standard video. Maybe Vol 4 and the follow-up, SOLDIERS OF THE DEAD, are hi-def & 16:9 anamorphic?

I did a review for Soldiers of the Dead (and Vols 2+3 - shameless self-promotion...), but the copy I have is a screener of a workprint, and not finished product, to the best of my knowledge. That's right, isn't it Craig? I didn't have to analyse the technical aspects of it for the review, but I'll go home and have a brief squiz at it tonight and let you know. Vols 2+3 are definitely 4:3, and are not hi-def.
