I saw my first Ferarra film last night. Ms. 45 aka. Angel of Vengeance. I was expecting a run of the mill rape revenge film, but this is actually the most well made film I've seen in some time. Are there any other Ferarra flicks worth searching for, or any good websites on the man? I'd like to find out more on him and his movies.

Also by Ferrarra and worth checking out are:

The Funeral
King of New York
Bad Lieutenant
Bodysnatchers

He also made some arty vampire flick (shot in black and white, like The Funeral) and was actually quite disturbing. Can't remember offhand what it's called though..?

Dangerous Game was interesting, but slow, and not a film I'd watch again. Madonna's best role to date though, and I think Ferrarra was one of the first director's to actually elicit some proper acting from her.

He also directed and starred in The Driller Killer.

The Addiction - I've wanted to see this for ages, but buggered if I can find a single video shop that has it (and afaik, it isn't out on DVD).

It's been a while, but I remember China Girl being a decent Ferarra flick. Bad Lieutenant is good, but not one I'm in any great hurry to see again.

I think Angel of Vengeance is one of the best revenge films of the 80's.  Sadly, it is yet to receive a decent DVD release, with a cut US DVD being the only option at the moment.  Luckily, the Aussie VHS release is completely uncut  Smiley

Zoe Tamerlis was quite the hottie, and apparently died of heart failure at the of age 37.

I'm a big fan of Ferrara's work. His new film, R-Xmas is out on R1 DVD.
A lot of his work is an acquired taste.
He also directed;
-(and starred in) a porno - 9 Lives of a Wet Pussy
-the pilot episode of Crime Story
-one or two episodes of Miami Vice
-a TV movie called The Gladiator
-a section of the movie Subway Stories
-New Rose Hotel

Some of his eighties stuff like Fear City is really for completists only.

So no bathtub dismemberment on the dvd, Craig Sad.
Is there an uncut release anywhere on the horizon?
I'll second the remark about Zoe. Never seen anyone look so good in a nuns habit before. I like Ferarra's style.

Bad Leutenant is a superb film, although Harvey Keitel should claim his fair share of the credit after delivering a stunning performance.

A like Driller Killer - it's one of those films that you couldn't see being made today. It has that sleazy, grimey atmosphere so evident in late '70s/early '80s movies.

I can't say I'm a fan of Ferarra, as I haven't been especially impressed with the other films of his I've seen, but I would certainly recommend the above two films.

My favourite Ferarra films tio date have been Bad Lieutenant - Kietel is outstanding - and King of New York, which I adore. I think Walken gives a real powerhouse performance, a definite career best IMO. And Larry Fishburne is also exceptional as his thuggish sidekick. A truly amazing piece of cinema.

Bad Lieutenant is delightfully morbid. The scene where he jacks off to them two teen girls he pulls over had my jaw hitting the ground. Im such a perv.. that scene had me wanting to be a cop more then ever  Wink

That scene is a true classic, and adds new meaning the often used police expression "Pull over driver".  For months after viewing Bad Lieutenant my friends and I would often be heard doing our best Harvey Keitel impressions and saying things like "Show me your ass" and "Show me how you suck a guys cock".  Luckily, we chose not to  perform the drugged-out cry baby nude dancing impression...

I saw The Addiction on laserdisc and while it looks good (it was shot in black and white) the film itself is sludgy and tedious, even despite an appearance from Christopher Walken. For Ferrera completists only.

Good move.

However, that conjured up some rather bizarre images of you and your friends...  Shocked

At long last, a special edition of Ferrara's BAD LIEUTENANT comes to R1 on July 28th. This'll be a purchase for me.
