Alex Aja's Piranha 3D dazzled us on the big screen with its shameless displays of boobs and blood. Unfortunately the follow-up will be going straight to home entertainment shelves without a major theatrical release in Australia, but the good news is the experience won't be any less trashy with the DVD and Blu-ray artwork promising to deliver "Twice the Terror" and "Double the D's!" Double D's are held in the highest of regards here at DR towers, so we'll be hoping this release lives up to its promise.
Directed by Feast's John Gulager and scripted by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (writers of several Saw sequels and The Collector among others) Piranha 3DD sees the ravenous aquatic creatures leave the confines of Lake Victoria to sink their teeth into the visitors of The Big Wet Water Park. Ving Rhames (equipped with a new shotgun leg) and Christopher Lloyd return to the cast and are joined by the likes of Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th and The Crazies remakes), Katrina Bowden (Tucker and Dale vs. Evil), Gary Busey, and... David Hasselhoff. Busey and The Hoff? That's a guaranteed double dose of craziness right there!
Available to rent, buy or download from October 24 through Roadshow Entertainment, Piranha 3DD's Blu-ray presentation will include both 3D and digital copies of the film along with DTS-HD 5.1 sound and extras that mirror overseas releases: Deleted Scenes, The Story Behind the DD, The Hofftastic World of David Hasselhoff, Busey's Bloopers, Wet and Wild with David Koechner, "A Lesson with John McEnroe" – A Dimension Short Film and an Audio Commentary with Director John Gulager, Producer Joel Soisson, and Co-Writer Marcus Dunstan. Those that haven't upgraded to high definition will have to settle for the two dimensional Piranha DD DVD that will include Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and deleted scenes.
