Splinter - the winner of best feature and the best special effects awards at the A Night of Horror film festival back in March and a film that our own Mr Intolerance described as a "top-notch hi-octane thrill-fest" when blogging about the ANoH festivities - will be available buy or rent on DVD and Blu-ray from September 9 as part of Icon's Insomnia line.
In the film, a young couple are carjacked by an escaped criminal and his girlfriend, but after seeking shelter at an isolated petrol station they are besieged by a strange parasitic creature that absorbs the corpses of its victims...
The Splinter Blu-ray will come with a 2.35:1 1080p transfer along with an audio commentary by director Toby Wilkins and several featurettes including: The Wizard (Special FX); Splinter Pumpkin; Construction - The creation of the Gas Station; Weather - Lots of it!; Shooting Digitally; Make-up and creature tests; HDNet - A look at Splinter; and Conceptual art gallery - The Creature.
The Splinter DVD will feature a 16:9 enhanced 2.35:1 transfer along with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio options, however, somewhat frustratingly, the disc will contain no extra features whatsoever. An attempt to railroad us into buying a brand new Blu-ray player perhaps?
