Cairns Premiere Announced for Yowie Powered 'Throwback'

The hairy beast is heading home! After a host of overseas festival screenings, Travis Bain's adventure/horror feature Throwback will have its Australian premiere next month as part of the Cairns Festival's Australian Films on the Dark Side.

In Throwback, two treasure hunters, a female park ranger and an unhinged ex-cop run into a Yowie - Australia's answer to Bigfoot – in a remote northern Australian jungle. Shawn Brack, Anthony Ring, and Melanie Serafin star, along with Mad Max 2 and Commando's Vernon Wells!

The Cairns screening on September 6 will be Throwback's first Australian appearance after several months on the international festival circuit (including the Famous Monsters Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Foreign Feature), and writer/Director Travis Bain can't wait to show his film on home soil. "We've tried to showcase Far North QLD and wrap it up in a compelling adventure story, and so far US and UK audiences have lapped it up, so it's time to unleash the beast on a home-town crowd" says the director, who is already plotting his next project - a sci-fi thriller inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft – between Throwback's festival screenings.

Tickets to Throwback's Australian premiere are available from the Centre of Contemporary Arts website.
