MUFF 2013

Now that the more refined MIFF has come and gone it's time for the seedy underbelly of Melbourne's festival circuit to come forward! The Melbourne Underground Film Festival recently unveiled its full 2013 line-up, and true to MUFF tradition it showcases a decidedly un-mainstream fusion of violence, sex, drugs, and transgressive ideology, with an unashamed focus on Australian underground filmmaking.

Now in its 14th year, MUFF 2013 will present punters with nine nights of feature films, documentaries, short films, and retrospective showcases, opening with the Melbourne made Jugular and closing with Rob Zombie's Lords of Salem.

Other highlights include Danny Trejo kicking undead arse in Zombie Hunter; gross-out body horror oddity Thanatomorphose; the Euro-horror inspired vampire tale Blood For Irina; The Blind Alley; and Lindsay Lohan's The Canyons. Wait, a Lindsay Lohan movie at MUFF? Perhaps we should also mention that it's from director Paul Schrader and writer Bret Easton Ellis, the man responsible for American Psycho. There, that sounds more appropriate.

Thanatomorphose

MUFF 14's local line-up will include Nathan Hill's Model Behavior, a cop thriller that delves into the seedier side of the fashion industry; Timothy Spanos' The House Cleaner, which features Ozploitation favourite Chantal Contouri; and MUFF director Richard Wolstencroft's documentary The Last Days of Joe Blow, a look at the porn career of Michael Tierney, the nephew of actor Lawrence Tierney.

The 2013 Melbourne Underground Film Festival will run from Friday September 6 to Saturday September 14 at Revolt Artspace, with tickets available at the door on the night. Peruse the line-up below, or download the full MUFF 14 catalogue from www.muff.com.au.
